Why do Zebras and Tigers have stripes?

Camouflage -to help them hide. If a zebra or a tiger were in our backyard, you'd know it. But if you were in their neighborhood, you might miss them.Striped coats are hard to see in the light and dark shadows of forest and grasslands. this helps them safe from predators. Now you see them, now you not!
